Who's That Birdie?

Because I initially got the inspiration for tomorrow's big post while working on the new restoration above, I thought I'd post it alone first as a teaser. First to correctly guess the species gets a shout-out!

  4. @Mickey Beak? What beak? This guy is fully toothy. Anyway this is doubly tricky as the feathering on the face did make the snout look a bit small and short.

    @Tomozaurus Not obvious at all really... At least I hope not! ;)

  6. Perhaps true regarding the role of feathers to disguise a short snout, but the specimen does have toothless areas in its jaws. Specifying further could make the guessing too easy though...

  7. I agree with Anonymous sayin' it's a Yanornis, with colours (I guess) similar to that of a Mauritius blue pigeon (head) and a great cuckoo-dove (body)...Maybe I'm just crazy...
